The recruitment of volunteers for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing 2008 was launched in 21 municipalities throughout Guangdong province early this year, attracting contestants as varied as a 17-year-old teenager and a 68 year-old senior citizen and included 74% university graduates. More than 76% of contestants are adept in foreign languages including English and German; some have overseas backgrounds or experience of living and working in areas like Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
The selection process will start in October this year. The authorities aim to select a group of excellent volunteers for Beijing 2008 according to principles of equity and transparency.
